Mind Maps to Boost Creativity

Yesterday I have been working on my goals for May. I like to write my goals in advance and take the time to think how to achieve each one of them (This system works like magic for me :-) ). 10 goals is usually a good number and I set targets in different areas of my life- my business, my fitness, my joy (I want to take another diving vacation next month) etc… Anyhow, the thing is that when working with mind maps, I found I can come up with fresh new ideas for ways to achieve my goals.

What do you need to know about mind maps?

  • They are good for variety of purposes- summarizing a topic, brain storming etc. The brain thinks by imagination and associations and this is why the traditional note taking isn’t as efficient when creativity is needed.
  • Mapping a subject can help our memory. As opposed to note taking, it is easier for the brain to remember a mind map structure and then follow it to find a treasure from our memory when needed.
  • Mind mapping isn’t new. Leonardo da Vinci, in the Renaissance days, was known for summarizing his important subjects in only one page.
  • Even though there might be rules for structuring them correctly, do what works for you.

  • The next clip is from Tony Buzan (British popular psychology author). In this short clip, Tony explains how to maximize the power of our brain and how to use mind maps. He is considered by many to be the one who invented the modern mind mapping. Enjoy…
